my job at the university of basel

I`m a chemical engineer and work part time at the departement of chemistry in basel (switzerland). there we are a group of aproximately 20 graduate students, phd students, postdocs, guests and technicians around our chief professor john p. maier, who is also leader of physical chemistry in the departement of chemistry (german: Anstalt für physikalische Chemie).

we are doing spectroscopy in the gasphase and in the matrix. my job in particular is to synthesize some precursors like acetylenes or C60 to produce longer carbon chains which we look at as ions and radicals. I also care about savety questions in the institute (safety page on the intranet, firealarm system, gases, chemicals and so on)
